I grew up in Point Pleasant Beach, went to Antrim School and graduated from Point Pleasant Beach High School.
In 1995 I graduated from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA with majors in French and Sociology with a concentration in race, class, & gender studies. While at Bucknell, I spent a semester abroad studying the role of women in developing countries in Kingston, Jamaica, and realized how much I love traveling and learning through experience.
In 1997, I decided I wanted to be a teacher, and spent the next two years living and working on the campus of The College of NJ as a graduate assistant for Residence Life. I took advantage of their summer internship, attending classes in Mallorca, Spain before graduating in 1999 with a Master of Arts degree in teaching. I am certified to teach grades K-8, and am also "highly qualified" in Social Studies and Language Arts.
My first teaching job was in 1999 in Little Egg Harbor, NJ where I stayed for 7 years, teaching both 2nd grade general education and basic skills.
In 2006 I began working at Bay Head School, and I taught 4th & 5th grade Language Arts and Social Studies until June, 2016. During the 2016-2017 school year I taught a wonderful group of first graders who are now 8th graders! I am excited to begin another year teaching WIN and PEP.
In 2016 I completed the graduate courses at Rutgers University necessary to obtain NJ Supervisor certification, and in December 2018, I completed classes necessary to obtain certification as a "Teacher of Gifted Education." In January 2020, the state of NJ passed a law related to Gifted Education. Bay Head School was ahead of the curve, already compliant with the law. I have also completed post-graduate studies in Teaching STEM.
My husband, Dave, and I have 2 sons. Radek is 19 and is working to start his own business, and Dylan attends Point Pleasant Beach High School- go Gulls! We have a German Shepherd we call "Girlie" and a wandering cat named "Zig." Outside of school, I enjoy writing and am thrilled to have had my writing performed by professional actors at the Writers Guild Initiative 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 Galas in Tribeca. I'm also proud to have had my writing published in academic journals, creative writing anthologies, and travel magazines.
I'm looking forward to a great year working with students of varied ages and abilities and learning from all of them.
