What kind of instruction will LA BSI entail?
In kindergarten through 3rd grade, BSI will follow the format of the Fundations lessons taught by students' classroom teachers during whole-group instruction. Students are not responsible for work (centers, stations, assignments, etc) that they miss when they leave the classroom for BSI.
How are students identified as good candidates to receive BSI?

Basic Skills Instruction is separate from Special Education. While BSI is facilitated by a general education teacher in a small group setting, Special Education instruction is facilitated by teachers with certification and/or degrees in special education and offered to students with IEPs (Individualized Education Plans.) A student can receive BSI without an IEP or special education classification.
Does the BSI population change?
Yes, services are offered based on need, and we recognize that needs change. Student needs will be assessed for BSI services 3 times a year. Therefore, a student in BSI in September may exit the program later in the year. Similarly, a student not in BSI in September may enter the program later in the year.
